REVIEW: Cloud Atlas (David Mitchell)

Book: Cloud Atlas
Author: David Mitchell
My rating: 4/5.

Premise: Six interlocking lives - one amazing adventure. In a narrative that circles the globe and reaches from the 19th century to post-apocalyptic future, David Mitchell erases the boundaries of time, genre and language to offer an enthralling vision of humanity's will to power, and where it will lead us.

I read this book after watching the film and I really enjoyed it! I loved the structure of the book, how the stories are nested within each other and how the author uses different typefaces for each story. The stories were very different - comedy, scifi, thriller, period, dystopia. But all the stories link and weave together. A very clever book!

The film's structure is different from the book in that it flips between all 6 stories throughout. It also features the same core actors across the different storylines to emphasise how the stories are interlinked. The soundtrack is also very stirring and moving in my opinion.
