REVIEW: Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep (Philip K Dick)

Book: Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep (aka Blade Runner)
Author: Philip K Dick
My rating: 4/5

Premise: It was January 2021, and Rick Deckard had a license to kill. Somewhere among the hordes of humans out there, lurked several rogue androids. Deckard's assignment--find them and then..."retire" them. Trouble was, the androids all looked exactly like humans, and they didn't want to be found!

I read this after seeing both films and was nicely surprised by how different it was to the original film! The basic, underlining plot is the same - guy has to retire 6 androids - but the rest is different and there's more to the dystopian world in the book. The love story is very different in the book, with Deckard being married, and through his marital life, you get a sense of what life is like for people on earth. There's a big subplot about the 2 main rival "religions" in the book, creating a nice contrast between old and new ideals. A very good, thrilling yet thought provoking book! One to recommend to anyone, regardless of if you've seen the film or not.
