REVIEW: The Girl in Red (Christina Henry)
Book: The Girl In Red
Author: Christina Henry
Author: Christina Henry
My rating: 3.5/5
Premise: It's not safe for anyone alone in the woods. But the woman in the red jacket has no choice. Not since the Crisis came and decimated the population. She is just a woman trying not to get killed in a world that was perfectly sane until three months ago. But there are worse threats in the woods than the things that stalk their prey. Red doesn't like to think of herself as a killer, but she isn't about to let herself get eaten up just because she's a woman alone in the woods.
I've read two other books by Christina Henry and thoroughly enjoyed them, so I knew this was going to be a good choice of book to help me back into reading again. And it didn't disappoint! This book is a good old dystopian/fantasy/post apocalypse story, but it also highlights all the flaws in most plots of a similar genre. The main character is pretty badass (gotta love it when she kills someone with an axe in the first chapter!), but can also be very human - I found it quite relatable at times when she piled on extra worries and emotional burdens for herself! I'm a bit torn over the ending as it does finish a tad abruptly and leaves you wanting to know what happens next! Not my usual genre but one I rather enjoyed!
