REVIEW: The Graveyard Book (Neil Gaiman)
Book: The Graveyard Book
Author: Neil Gaiman
Author: Neil Gaiman
My rating: 4/5
Premise: Nobody Owens, known to his friends as Bod, is a normal boy. He would be completely normal if he didn't live in a sprawling graveyard, being raised and educated by ghosts, with a solitary guardian who belongs to neither the world of the living nor of the dead. There are dangers and adventures in the graveyard for a boy. But if Bod leaves the graveyard, then he will come under attack from the man Jack—who has already killed Bod's family.
Yet again, the imagination of Neil Gaiman is superb. Even though this is more a children's book, the writing style and the whole world created within the graveyard was really clever and witty, giving adult readers something extra to appreciate and enjoy. I thought the addition of Chris Riddell's illustrations was a nice touch. I must admit, I was confused when they explained the whole man Jack thing, but I got enough of the gist for it not to detract from the story. A very clever and exciting book. Would definitely recommend to all ages!
