REVIEW: The Hollow (Agatha Christie)
Book: The Hollow
Author: Agatha Christie
Author: Agatha Christie
My rating: 4/5
Premise: When socialite Lady Angkatell organises a weekends entertainment at her English country house, it seems she has though of everything. In fact, the only thing she seems to have overlooked is the fact that most of her guests loathe each other. A far-from-warm welcome greets Hercule Poirot as he arrives for lunch - instead a man lies dying by the swimming pool, as a gun sinks slowly to the bottom.
[⚠️CW: racist slurs of the day]
This is my first Agatha Christie book and I was not disappointed. The classic premise of a murder mystery set at a well-to-do country house was too much to pass up - stereotypical, yes, but a good setting! As expected, there were many turns, keeping you second guessing and deflecting your attention. I admit that I found it slow to start off with. There was over 100 pages of set up (building the characters, setting the scene) before the murder actually takes place. But once that had happened, the story picked up. The characters were well rounded and vibrant, making you want certain people to be guilty over others! A very good crime novel. I shall be looking out for more of her works!
