REVIEW: Madame Bovary (Flaubert)
Author: Flaubert
My rating: 4/5
Premise: Emma is a bored provincial housewife who abandons her husband Charles Bovey to pursue the libertine Rodolphe in a desperate love affair.
For a classic, I found it easy to get into the writing style and the story was at a good pace. The story explores the heroine's need for romance and excitement, which she feels is lacking from her mundane marriage. You get a real feel for how trapped Madame Bovary feels and how she ends up derailing her life. A good novel.
