REVIEW: A Man Called Ove (Fredrik Backman)

Book: A Man Called Ove
Author: Fredrik Backman
My rating: 4.5/5

Premise: Ove is almost certainly the grunpiest man you will ever meet. He thinks himself surrounded by idiots - joggers, neighbours who can't reverse a trailer properly and shop assistants who talk in code. But isn't it rare, these days, to find such old-fashioned clarity of belief and deed? Such unswerving conviction about what the world should be, and a lifelong dedication to making it just so? In the end, you will see, there is something about Ove that is quite irresistible.

[⚠️CW: suicide attempts]
This book had me chuckling the whole way through. Some of Ove's grumpy comments were priceless. The book is set in the present, with Ove dealing with his new neighbours, but also has flashbacks about his life. At times, it was actually rather moving and it helped explain Ove's grumpy persona. A very good read, one I whole heartedly recommend!
