REVIEW: On The Frontline with the Women Who Fight Back (Stacey Dooley)
Book: On The Frontline With The Women Who Fight Back
Author: Stacey Dooley
Author: Stacey Dooley
My rating: 5/5.
Premise: On the frontline with women who fight back draws in Stacey Dooley's encounters with the brave, bold and inspiring women she has met through the course of her documentary making. Using their stories as a vehicle to explore some of the issues at the centre of female experience - from gender inequality and domestic violence, to sex trafficking and sexual identity - Stacey weaves these global stands together in an exploration of what it is to be women fighting back in the world today.
[⚠️CW: child abuse, drugs, domestic violence, femicide, racism]
I love this book. It is very eye opening and the women in it are indeed very inspirational people. The topics covered aren't light and I commend Stacey on her dedication to share these stories. She comes across as a highly motivated woman, who's opinions are well thought through. What shocked me the most was my ignorance of what happens in the world - I knew nothing of the state of things in Honduras! This book, along with some of the work I've done at uni, has sparked my interest in feminism and attitudes towards women (I was more a "lazy" feminist before). An inspiring and eye opening read!
