REVIEW: The Thief Lord (Cornelia Funke)

Book: The Thief Lord
Author: Cornelia Funke
My rating: 3/5

Premise: Two orphaned children are on the run, hiding among the crumbling canals and misty alleyways of Venice. Befriended by a gang of street children and their mysterious leader, the Thief Lord, they shelter in an old, disused cinema. On their trail is a bungling detective, obsessed with disguises and the health of his pet tortoise. But a greater threat to the boys' new-found freedom is something from a forgotten past - a beautiful magical treasure with the power to spin time itself.

I enjoyed this book. Its obviously a kids book and is OK, if a little predictable. I loved the Venetian setting and some of the funny characters in it. The 2 main women in the novel are fiesty and strong, which I loved - nothing like strong female characters for kids to join in an adventure! An OK book, but I don't think I can count myself as part of its intended audience!!!
