REVIEW: A Christmas Carol (Charles Dickens)

Book: A Christmas Carol
Author: Charles Dickens
My rating: 4/5

Premise: The tale of the solitary miser Ebenezer Scrooge, who is taught the true meaning of the season by a series of ghostly visitors and given a second chance.

Such a well known story but I hadn't actually read it. Honestly, I didn't realise how short the book is (only 85 pages!). The writing style is conversational at times and quite witty, which I enjoyed. To start with, I was concerned that maybe the story wasn't as festive as I'd hoped, with Scrooge being a real miser. But as the tale went on and we visit various Christmas scenes, I found myself feeling quite festive. It was nice reading about Christmas before its commercialisation and taking the festivities back to a simpler time. A lovely, quick read that has definitely got me in a festive mood!
