REVIEW: The Binding (Bridget Collins)
Book: The Binding

My rating: 3/5.
Premise: Emmett Farmer is a binder's apprentice. His job is to hand-craft books and, within each, to capture something unique and extraordinary: a memory. If you have something you want to forget, he can bind it - and you will never have to remember the pain it caused. In a vault under his mentor's workshop, row upon row of books are meticulously stored. Then one day Emmett makes an astonishing discovery: one of the volumes has his name on it.
The concept of this book drew me in. I loved the idea that the stories in books are real. But this book explored the darker side to this - stealing memories, not knowing what you've done, the mistrust in binders. The message of this book is that all experiences make up who we are. It also explores the idea of other people knowing more about you, and how knowing that can consume us. The plot was a tad slow at times (and a little predictable at times) but I did enjoy it. Overall, an interesting book!
