REVIEW: A Keeper (Graham Norton)
Book: A Keeper
Author: Graham Norton
Author: Graham Norton
My rating: 3/5.
Premise: When Elizabeth Keane returns to Ireland after her mother’s death, she’s focused only on saying goodbye to that part of her life. But within this mess, she discovers a small stash of letters—and ultimately, the truth. Forty years earlier, a young woman stumbles from a remote stone house into the darkness away from the cliffs and the sea. She has no sense of where she is going, only that she must keep on.
[⚠️CW: imprisonment]
I love Graham Norton and enjoyed his first book but this one wasn't quite my cup of tea. It was easy to connect with the characters (they definitely felt real!) and you end up sympathising with pretty much all of them. One thing I think he does well is making things not so black and white, challenging your opinions when things aren't so clear cut. So I commend Graham with his ability to create good characters. For me, the ending fell a tad clichéd and some parts of the plot weren't explored enough - it felt abrupt and a bit rushed near the end when the main character finished her investigating/soul searching. A light read nonetheless and I'll still read more of Graham's books.
