Desert Island Books #4
Another week, another desert island books post! This week's guest is fellow bookstagrammer Jess (aka @ajourneythroughpages). Go check out her instagram for some very aesthetic posts!

Desert Island Scenario
You are going to be stranded on a desert island. You'll have enough provisions to last a year, but no idea when help will come. You can only take 4 books with you to help pass the time.
What is the first book you would take and why?
Beauty Queens by Libba Bray. Not only is the book about being stranded on a desert island, so would give me some survival tips, but it’s one of the funniest, most entertaining books I have ever read! I love it!
What is the second book and why have you chosen it?
Les Miserables by Victor Hugo. It’s on my to read list and it’s so big that if I was on a desert island I’m sure I’d have plenty of time to finally read it hahaha.
What is your third book and why?
Ready Player One by Ernest Cline. I’ve reread this book three times already and it never gets old. It’s my favourite book and I think the escapism element of it would complement being on the island quite well!
What is your fourth and final choice of book and why would you take it?
Vengeful by V.E. Schwab. It’s a pretty big tome, so hopefully I could space it out over a few weeks to keep me sane, and the story is just so well written and captivating and great!
Quick fire questions:
What is your favourite book? Ready Player One by Ernest Cline
Who is your favourite author? V.E. Schwab
What's your favourite genre? I don’t really have one. I like all sorts really! But I do love a good fantasy/dystopian/thriller.
What is the worst book you've read? I honestly couldn’t tell you – I’m not sure, and my memory of books I’ve read a while ago isn’t very good haha.
What's your go-to reading platform? Paperback! I love the way the pages and cover bend when I’m holding it. Second choice is hardback (I’ve never read an e-book!)
Name a book where you preferred the film/adaptation? Possibly Catching Fire. I adored that film!
Name a film/adaptation where you preferred the book? Ready Player One. They made a great film, but it missed a lot of things in the book and changed the story a bit. There are just some things in that book that wouldn’t work well on the screen, but make it such a great book.
What was your favourite childhood book? Maybe the Inkheart Trilogy? I loved that!
What are you currently reading? I’m rereading Crooked Kingdom!
What book are you looking forward to reading? The Stranger’s Guide to Talliston. It’s sitting on my shelf and I can’t wait to pick it up after CK!
What book would you recommend to everyone? Wild Swans by Jung Chang. Reading about the history of China through three generations of women, reading about what those women went through – it’s just incredible. Such a powerful book!
