REVIEW: Jane Eyre (Charlotte Brontë)

Book: Jane Eyre
Author: Charlotte Brontë
My rating: 5/5.

Premise: Orphaned as a child, Jane has felt an outcast her whole young life. Her courage is tested once again when she arrives at Thornfield Hall, where she has been hired by the brooding, proud Edward Rochester to care for his ward Adèle. Jane finds herself drawn to his troubled yet kind spirit. But there is a terrifying secret inside the gloomy, forbidding Thornfield Hall. What is Rochester hiding from Jane?

How has it taken me so long to finally read this book?! I loved it!!! You can't help rooting for Jane. As a child, she is bullied and punished unjustly. Gradually, she grows into her character, continuing to be passionate and strong-willed. I got so attached to her relationship with Rochester, so much so I wanted to shake them both at times! The story wasn't dull either - there was plenty of drama! I loved how Jane's mindset develops. She values her feisty nature and does what makes her happy rather than what other people expect of her. This underlying message of staying true to yourself and doing what's right to you rounded off Jane's character nicely. Definitely one of my favourite classics!
