REVIEW: Dune (Frank Herbert)

Book: Dune
Author: Frank Herbert
My rating: 3.5/5.

Premise: The spice Melange is the rarest and most valuable element in the universe. It can only be found on one planet: the desert world Arrakis. Duke Leto Atreides is given stewardship of Arrakis, but is soon betrayed, forcing his concubine, Lady Jessica, and their son, Paul, to flee into the desert. In order to avenge his father and retake Arrakis, Paul must earn the trust of the native Fremen and lead them against the innumerable forces aligned against them.

After my last book, I was in a real space/sci-fi mood so finally picked up Dune. I must admit, it did really satisfy my need for a space adventure. And there really is something about emersing yourself into a new world. I really enjoyed the first 2 parts of the book. However, the final part felt a tad rushed, with time jumping quite a bit. I would've liked to have read more about Paul settling into Fremen life a bit more. Also, his character got a tad blurry near the end - I wasn't sure what his motives were and what he was actually planning. Overall, I felt a tad dissatisfied with the last 100 pages, but I did enjoy it!
