REVIEW: Lady Midnight (Cassandra Clare)
Book: Lady Midnight
Author: Cassandra Clare
My rating: 4/5.
Premise: Emma Carstairs is a Shadowhunter. Together with her best friend and parabatai Julian Blackthorn, she patrols the streets of Los Angeles, where faeries – the most powerful of supernatural creatures – teeter on the edge of open war with Shadowhunters. But when bodies of murdered humans and faeries start to turn up, Emma and Julian must strike an uneasy alliance with their supposed enemies in order to find the killer.
Oh my poor heart, torn to shreds again. Lady Midnight is the first in the Dark Artifices trilogy, which follows on from The Mortal Instruments. This book relies on you having read the first 2 shadowhunter series as there isn't the basic world building and some of the previous characters turn up. The story follows Emma and the Blackthorns as they solve a series of murders. I love the main characters. Mark needs a hug. Ty needs a hug. Julian needs a massive hug. This book really shows the fallout from City of Heavenly Fire, particularly how it affects ordinary people. There were many twists and turns that I didn't see coming. I'd guessed who the murderer was thanks to Chain of Iron, but it didn't ruin the story at all. As per, there is a story of forbidden love, namely between Emma and Julian. Honestly, I need them to have a happy ending. But this is Cassandra Clare so who knows! Another cracking shadowhunter book.
