Desert Island Books #7
Desert
Island Books is back! This week I grilled my fellow bookstagrammer Ella (aka
@bookwormbeales) on her bookish opinions. Please go check out her Instagram

Desert
Island ScenarioYou are going to be stranded on a desert island. You'll have
enough provisions to last a year, but no idea when help will come. You can only
take 4 books with you to help pass the time.
My first book would be Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte. It’s a book that I’ve read numerous times throughout my life, and have always loved. It’s one of the only books I have multiple copies of! It’s loved by lots of the women in my family, so it would be a nice reminder of home when I’m stranded on a desert island! I also have quite a chunky copy of the book which could come in handy if I need to knock someone out!
My second book would have to be The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo by Stieg Larsson. This book follows the story of a disgraced reporter who is hired by a wealthy Swedish industrialist to solve the 40-year-old murder of his niece, and the reporter’s unique accomplice, Lisbeth. I’d be gutted I couldn’t have the rest of the series with me, but I loved the female protagonist in this – Lisbeth a boss ass woman so I’d be able to read this book and absorb some of her strength and bravery! I love crime thrillers, so it would satisfy my love of the genre, whilst also giving me strong women at the heart of at it.
My third is Code Name Verity by Elizabeth Wein. I am a massive history nerd…I’m currently doing a Masters in History, I’m that level of history nerd! I’ve always loved historical fiction and again, I love stories with strong female protagonists at the heart! This book is about the friendship between two British women in World War II, one being a spy captured by the Nazis and the other being the pilot that brought her to Nazi-occupied France. This is a book that was given to me by my dad when I was around 14 years old. He got Wein to go through the book and pick her favourite quote which not only summarised the book but also summarised her experience of writing and books. She has highlighted it in red and it reads ‘It’s like being in love, discovering your best friend’. I think it would be a beautiful reminder of the power of friendship, books and women in the face of adversity.
My fourth choice is The Girl Who Dared to Think by Bella Forrest. This is the first book in a fantasy series, set in a world where humanity exists within the confines of a Tower, with everyone’s thoughts monitored by a machine, and where people are ranked in terms of their usefulness to society. It is yet another book with a strong female protagonist, which I always appreciate! I also love the escapism that this book provides – one of the reasons why fantasy novels are so great! It also has some romance elements, so what more could I want from a book!
What is your favourite book? Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte
