REVIEW: Death on the Nile (Agatha Christie)
Author: Agatha Christie
My rating: 3.5/5.
Premise: The tranquillity of a cruise along the Nile is shattered by the discovery that Linnet Ridgeway has been shot through the head. She was young, stylish and beautiful, a girl who had everything - until she lost her life. Hercule Poirot recalls an earlier outburst by a fellow passenger: 'I'd like to put my dear little pistol against her head and just press the trigger.' Yet in this exotic setting, nothing is ever quite what it seems.
It's no secret that I'm an Agatha Christie fan and I did enjoy Death on the Nile. I wasn't so sure at first because it started off slow. In fact, the murder happened around 150 pages in, which is quite late compared to the other Christies I've read. The first third of the book builds up the scene and the character relationships. Once the murder happened, the story picks up the pace and I was gripped. There were a number of plot points to keep you guessing along the way. I was rather proud to have worked out the "who" in this story, but they "why" and "how" were still a mystery. Another cracking Christie novel!
