REVIEW: Piranesi (Susanna Clarke)

Book: Piranesi
Author: Susanna Clarke
My rating: 4/5.

Premise: Piranesi lives in the House. Perhaps he always has. Then messages begin to appear, scratched out in chalk on the pavements. There is someone new in the House. But who are they and what do they want? Lost texts must be found: secrets must be uncovered. The world that Piranesi thought he knew is becoming strange and dangerous.

This book was slightly different to what I expected, but in a good way. I thought it was set around the time of ancient Greece, but it's clear from early on that it's set in modern day. I don't want to give anything away. Some of it was predictable but that didn't detract from the story. I loved watching Piranesi develop and grow. I loved the world of the House. I loved the writing style. I found the book wholesome without being soppy. The "chapters" tended to be short, helping to keep the pace up and the story exciting. A good read!
