REVIEW: A Stitch in Time (Kelley Armstrong)

Book: A Stitch in Time
Author: Kelley Armstrong
My rating: 4/5.

Premise: Thorne Manor has always been haunted. As a young girl, Bronwyn Dale could pass through a time slip in her great-aunt’s house, where she visited William Thorne, a boy her own age, born two centuries earlier. Twenty years later Bronwyn inherits returns. But William Thorne is no longer the boy she remembers. He’s a difficult and tempestuous man, his own life marred by tragedy and scandal. As their friendship rekindles, Bronwyn must also deal with ghosts in the present version of the house. Soon she realizes they are linked to William and the secret scandal that drove him back to Thorne Manor.

This book hit the spot. Think haunted house, time travel and romance all smashed together with Wuthering Heights vibes. We have Bronwyn, who's a widow in her late thirties, coming back to the house that haunted her as a kid. I must admit, having a more mature protagonist was a nice change for me. Usually the main characters are naive, barely 20 and overlooks the toxic parts of her relationship. Bronwyn knows herself, knows what she wants in a relationship and is confident enough to stand up to William. Genre-wise, I think Kelley Armstrong got a good blend of genres. I found the ghosts actually quite scary, which I wasn't expecting (mind you, I am a chicken). But also, it wasn't too much of a romance novel, which I liked. Overall, a really good read!
