REVIEW: Kingdom of the Wicked (Kerri Maniscalco)
Book: Kingdom of the Wicked
Author: Kerri Maniscalco
My rating: 4/5.
Premise: Emilia and her twin Vittoria are witches. One night, Emilia finds the body of her beloved twin, desecrated beyond belief. Devastated, Emilia sets out to find her sister’s killer and to seek vengeance at any cost. Then Emilia meets Wrath, one of the Wicked-princes of Hell. Wrath claims to be on Emilia’s side, tasked by his master with solving the series of women’s murders on the island. But when it comes to the Wicked, nothing is as it seems.
Holy moly. This is a real murder mystery/what's real and what's a trick sorta book. It's your classic witch-demon story, with great world building and a brewing romance. What I loved was how Emilia developed from this sweet, naive girl to a sassy, vengeful queen. There isn't any beating around the bush whether she's morally justified - she's out for revenge and she owns it. Also, can I just say, if Wrath and Emilia don't end up together, I won't be able to defend my actions. The chemistry between them! I loved the setting of Sicily as well - wasn't sure which century we were in but it worked. Can't wait for the next book!
