REVIEW: The Night Circus (Erin Morgenstern)

Book: The Night Circus
Author: Erin Morgenstern.
My rating: 3/5.

Premise: The circus arrives without warning. Within the black-and-white striped canvas tents is an utterly unique experience full of breathtaking amazements. But behind the scenes, a fierce competition is underway—a duel between two young magicians, Celia and Marco, who are slowly tumbling headfirst into love. Yet, unbeknownst to them, this is a game in which only one can be left standing.

I'm torn on this book. On the one hand, the writing is beautiful, giving such vivid descriptions that you feel you are at the circus. As the story goes on, more and more magical tents get added to the circus, making me want to step into the page! However, the plot is slow. I found it hard to get into as it took about half the book for the story to get underway. Also, there were a number of plot lines being set up, so it took a while to get going. While it was enjoyable and beautiful, I felt a tad let down with the story.
