REVIEW: Animal Farm (George Orwell)

Book: Animal Farm
Author: George Orwell.
My rating: 4/5.

Premise: A satire on Stalin's Russia. Tired of their human master, the animals of Manor Farm rebel and reclaim the land, declaring all animals equal. But are some animals more equal than others?

I first read Animal Farm at school and I wasn't that struck on it. I think back then I really know much about Stalin and Russia. But reading it now, along with the notes at the back of the book explaining what Orwell is referring to, I appreciated it a lot more. You see how the animals are provoked into rebellion and the new life they design for themselves. But then we see some animals get hungry for power. You get a continual sense of dread as you go on reading, seeing how much worse things get. A powerful read.
