REVIEW: Queens of the Crusades (Alison Weir)

Book: Queens of the Crusades
Author: Alison Weir
My rating: 3.5/5.

Premise: The 1200s is a particularly dramatic and violent period of European history. Wars, crusades, treachery, murder, passion, and the interplay between rival monarchs of Britain and France provide a surprising picture of five ambitious queens of England and their struggle for power.

I knew very little about this period of history. While it sounds like this book is just going to talk about the lives of the queens, it also covers the lives of the kings and other key players of the time. If only heard of one of the queens before, and even then didn't know why she was well-known. Actually, all 5 women were really interesting and strong characters. My opinions of the kings have changed, mostly that of Richard I who wasn't as nice as stories may say. Unfortunately, there were a couple of typos, mostly in the family trees. An educational read for me!
