REVIEW: Gods of Jade and Shadow (Silvia Moreno-Garcia)
Author: Silvia Moreno-Garcia
My rating: 4.5/5
Premise: The Jazz Age is in full swing, but Casiopea Tun is too busy cleaning the floors of her wealthy grandfather’s house. Until the day she accidentally frees the Mayan god of death, who requests her help in recovering his throne. Casiopea begins an adventure that will take her on a cross-country odyssey from the jungles of Yucatán to the bright lights of Mexico City—and deep into the darkness of the Mayan underworld.
This was such a fun book. The story takes us across Mexico retrieving items to help the Mayan god of death reclaim his throne. I enjoyed reading about the Mayan culture and learning a bit about Mexico in the 1920s. Casiopea was a strong female character who'd faced hardships but still knew her worth and was very brave. I loved how her relationship with the god of death changed in the story, starting as strangers and slowly understanding each other. A really enjoyable book!
