REVIEW: King of Scars (Leigh Bardugo)

Book: King of Scars
Author: Leigh Bardugo
My rating: 4/5.

Premise: No one knows what Nikolai Lantsov endured in his country’s bloody civil war—and he intends to keep it that way. Now, the young king must find a way to refill Ravka’s coffers, forge new alliances, and stop a rising threat to the once-great Grisha Army. Yet with every day a dark magic within him grows stronger, threatening to destroy all he has built.

This is two stories running in parallel. We have Nikolai and Zoya trying to rebuild Ravka and stop dark magic. I love Zoya and Nikolai. They are opposites, but both strong and fearless. I want some of Nikolai's charm and sharp mind, but also Zoya's power and drive. I enjoyed this half of the story, with lots of twists and loved character development.

Meanwhile, we have Nina on a spy mission in Fjerda. I was nervous to continue her story after the events of Crooked Kingdom. But my god, she is amazing and badass! I liked seeing her put into practice what she learnt from the Crows and I found this blended the previous two series nicely. Another cracking instalment in the Grishaverse!
