REVIEW: The Flatshare (Beth O'Leary)

Book: The Flatshare
Author: Beth O'Leary
My rating: 5/5.

Premise: Tiffy needs a cheap flat, and fast. Leon works nights and needs cash. Their friends think they’re crazy, but it’s the perfect solution: Leon occupies the one-bed flat while Tiffy’s at work in the day, and she has the run of the place the rest of the time. But with obsessive ex-boyfriends, wrongly imprisoned brothers and the fact that they still haven’t met yet, it seems this flatshare is more complicated than expected.

I did not expect to fall in love with this book as much as I did! Yes the story is predictable as a lot of romances are. But the characters were just so warm I felt. Tiffy is bubbly but also insecure having come out of a toxic relationship. Leon is a busy nurse who worries about his brother. I absolutely hated Tiffy’s ex so I was cheering Tiffy on as she was recovering.

It's dual perspective with the chapters alternating between Tiffy and Leon. I loved how Leon's chapters are written in short sentences and dialogue reads more like a transcript. I felt like that helped convey this busy yet low maintenance guy. In contrast, Tiffy’s chapters were written like a normal book, which nicely reflects the fact she's a book editor. A nice touch!
