REVIEW: Book Lovers (Emily Henry)
Author: Emily Henry
Premise: Nora is a cut-throat literary agent at the top of her game. To prevent another dating dud, Nora's sister persuades her to swap her city desk for a month's holiday in Sunshine Falls. It's a small town straight out of a romance novel. But instead of meeting a handsome stranger, Nora keeps bumping into Charlie, a gifted editor and her work nemesis.
I did enjoy this book although not as much as I wanted. It's a classic story of work enemies slowly falling in love. I liked how the author leaned into some of the romance clichés. The fact that Nora is a literary agent meant she picked up on a lot of them herself. I loved the banter she had with Charlie and her sister. Plus, Charlie was a really understanding guy and was supportive when Nora finally opened up to him.
I don't know if it's just me, but I found the story predictable. I wouldn't have called Charlie Nora's "nemesis" as they only meet once before she goes to Sunshine Falls. Also, the author tries to make out that Charlie isn't your typical romance novel boyfriend, he very much is the perfect guy.
So a mixed bag for me.
