REVIEW: Kingdom of the Cursed (Kerri Maniscalco)

Book: Kingdom of the Cursed
Author: Kerri Maniscalco

Premise: With the enigmatic Prince of Wrath at her side, Emilia sold her soul to become Queen of the Wicked and fulfil her vow of avenging her beloved sister. But it quickly becomes clear that nothing in Hell is what it seems. Faced with backstabbing courtiers and conflicting clues about her sister's death, Emilia soon finds herself trying to unlock mysteries from her own past.

This is book 2 of the Kingdom of the Cursed trilogy and it gave me real Court of Mist and Fury. We have Emilia entering the house of her enemy and learning about each of the houses of sin. Was the book doing something new? Not really. Were some things predictably? Sure. But did I get sucked in anyway and left fangirlling at the end? Yes. Yes I did.

There was a good deal of mystery and different threads being woven. Only a couple of these threads got resolved so I'm excited to see how they all fit together. I also loved seeing Emilia become more and more badass as the story progressed. The chemistry between Emilia and Wrath dialled up considerably since the first book. Frankly, I was blushing at many points throughout; you could tell we weren't in YA territory anymore! And then right at the end, we get a bombshell dropped on our laps.

A cracking book that definitely didn't suffer from second book syndrome!
