REVIEW: Lonely Castle in the Mirror (Mizuki Tsujimura)
Book: Lonely Castle in the Mirror
Author: Mizuki Tsujimura
Premise: in a neighbourhood in Tokyo, seven young people wake up to find their bedroom mirrors shining. They are pulled through into a wondrous castle where they must hunt for a key that will grant a wish. Though they don't know it yet, but they all have one thing in common. However, their time here will not be without glitches.
This book was a hug in paper form. Its about seven children who, for various reasons, don't go to school and don't fit in. Throughout the book, we see friendships blossoming and they help each other face their real world problems.
In the background, there's a "quest" to find a hidden key that will grant one of them a wish, plus there's the mystery of why they're all there. In the last few chapters, there's so many twists and turns that I wasn't expecting and one reveal I was hoping for!
But overall the relationships between the seven children are what makes the book. It's one that leaves you feeling warm and happy. Loved it.
