REVIEW: The War on Women (Sue Lloyd-Roberts)
Book: The War on Women
Author: Sue Lloyd-Roberts
Premise: Sue Lloyd-Roberts was the UK's first female video-journalist to report alone from the bleak outposts of the Soviet Union, China and Iran. During her career she travelled the world and witnessed the worst atrocities inflicted on women. But in observing them first-hand she documented an incredible determination to fight back.
[⚠️TW: rape, sex trafficking, female genital mutilation, murder, violence, sexual assault]
I recommend this book. Strongly recommend even! Each chapter deals with a different problem facing women, bringing these issues out into the open. From sex trafficking to forced marriages, honor killings to FGM. The book is features a range of women telling their stories, painting dark and bleak pictures. It isn't an easy read and don't go in expecting happy endings. Many a time I finished a section and wanted to cry for these women. It's a book that reminds me how privileged I am and have been. A very important read.
