REVIEW: The Last Tudor (Philippa Gregory)

Book: The Last Tudor
Author: Philippa Gregory.

Premise: Three sisters, three heirs to the Tudor throne. Jane Grey was queen of England for nine days before being sent to the executioner’s block. Her sisters Katherine and Mary both intends to enjoy their youths. But what will happen when the last Tudors defy the ruthless and unforgiving Queen Elizabeth?

I didn't know much about the Grey sisters before reading this book. All I knew was that Jane Grey was queen for 9 days then killed by Mary. I didn't know she had any sisters.

The book is split into 3 sections, one for each sister, with Katherine's section being the longest. There's a theme throughout the each of their stories of how dangerous it is to be an heir. People want to use them without considering what the girls themselves actually want.

In the second half of the book, I was starting to get bored. Both Katherine and Mary marry in secret then live under house arrest. So most of their stories are them going "surely now I'm in favour and must be freed" then not being released. But overall, a good book.
