REVIEW: Chain of Thorns (Cassandra Clare)
Book: Chain of Thorns
Author: Cassandra Clare
Premise: Cordelia Carstairs has lost everything that matters to her. After fleeing to Paris, she hopes to forget her sorrows in the city’s glittering nightlife. But reality intrudes when shocking news comes from home. Belial’s plan is about to crash into the Shadowhunters of London like a deadly wave, one that will separate Cordelia, Lucie, and the Merry Thieves from help of any kind.
I think this trilogy is my favourite of the Shadowhunter books. The characters have all found a place in my heart and as much as I'm sad to let them go, I'm slightly relieved that they are now safe! There's a lot of character development and I adore all of the relationships. But there's also a good story and I wasn't sure how things were going to be resolved. The stakes definitely seemed higher than in previous books.
I don't want to spoil it but the book didn't break me as much as I thought. I did cry, but I was expecting more heartbreak. And in a weird way, I kinda wish a couple more characters died to help ram home the high stakes. I also wasn't a huge fan of the Cordelia-James-Matthew love triangle. I found that distracting.
Overall another amazing Shadowhunter book.
