REVIEW: Certain Dark Things (Silvia Moreno-Garcia)
Book: Certain Dark Things
Author: Silvia Moreno-Garcia
Premise: Welcome to Mexico City. Domingo is a lonely garbage-collecting street kid. Atl, a descendant of Aztec blood drinkers, needs to quickly escape the city, far from the rival narco-vampire clan pursuing her. Her plan doesn't include Domingo, but little by little, she finds herself warming up to him. As the trail of corpses stretches behind her, local cops and crime bosses both start closing in.
Disclaimer: I fricking love Silvia Moreno-Garcia and her books.
This book is action, noir and vampire drug lords. I love the world this is set in. There's different types of vampires all based on different cultures. Atl comes from a matriarchal Aztec vampire clan that's been destroyed by the new clan on the block. There's plenty of action as we have the rival clan, the police and human gangs all chasing Atl.
There's also a slow burning romance underlying the book. I think this was the cherry on top for me because it provided that lighter, more personable side to the characters.
