REVIEW: Far From the Madding Crowd (Thomas Hardy)

Book: Far From the Madding Crowd
Author: Thomas Hardy

Premise: Bathsheba Everdene is a proud working woman whose life is complicated by three different men - respectable farmer Boldwood, seductive Sergeant Troy and devoted Gabriel - making her the object of scandal and betrayal.

This book is a romance with themes of rural communities and the status of women. It also has good pacing and is quite easy to read for a classic. Couldn't help it, I was a sucker for the romance as well!

I'm torn on Bathsheba. At times she was strong and defied society's expectations, which I loved. But then Hardy brought out the classic swooning and hysterics came out, which ruined the effect.

What struck me with this book was how beautiful some of the descriptions are. I read a passage about the night sky and had to go stand outside to look myself it was that moving. Gorgeous!
