REVIEW: Lessons in Chemistry (Bonnie Garmus)
Book: Lessons in Chemistry
Author: Bonnie Garmus
Premise: Elizabeth Zott is not your average woman. Forced to resign as a chemist, she reluctantly signs on as the host of a cooking show, Supper at Six. But her revolutionary approach to cooking, fuelled by scientific and rational commentary, grabs the attention of a nation. Soon, a legion of overlooked housewives find themselves daring to change the status quo.
I flew through this book. It's set in the 1960s and we follow Elizabeth's life and career. She's is a quirky yet loveable character. She says things as they are, although often using scientific jargon instead of plain English. I loved her strength. Despite so many setbacks, she challenges the everyday sexism aimed at herself and others. I also loved the friends she makes along the way, kind of hitting on the found family trope.
A really good read.
