REVIEW: Maurice (E. M. Forster)
Book: Maurice
Author: E. M. Forster
Premise: Maurice is heartbroken over unrequited love, which opened his heart and mind to his own sexual identity. In order to be true to himself, he goes against the grain of society’s often unspoken rules of class, wealth, and politics.
I really liked this book. It follows a young man called Maurice as he navigates pre war Britain as a young homosexual man. I found myself invested in Maurice's happiness. I felt his confusion, his joys and his heartbreaks. You get a real sense of being trapped by society’s expectations and feeling isolated. By the end of the book, you can't help but cheer Maurice on. A warming and important read.
