REVIEW: Malibu Rising (Taylor Jenkins Reid)

Book: Malibu Rising
Author: Taylor Jenkins Reid

Premise: It’s the day of Nina Riva’s annual end-of-summer party. Everyone wants to be there. By midnight the party will be completely out of control. By morning, the Riva mansion will have gone up in flames. But before that first spark, alcohol will flow, music will play, and secrets will come bubbling to the surface.

I was expecting the story to come to a climax with a lot of drama and anger, but this wasn't the case. You also get thrown into the world of 80s celebrity mayhem, with the party getting wild and out of control. There was, however, a lot of emotions.

There are two timelines in this book: the day of the party and the Riva family history. At first, you assume the Riva siblings have had a cushy life and inherited their wealth. But we find out the struggles and heartbreaks they encountered along the way. I loved Nina so much and wanted to give her a big hug and tell her it'll all be OK.

Another good book from TJR. I also loved the connections to her other novels with a couple of characters making appearances.
