REVIEW: The Sittaford Mystery (Agatha Christie)

Book: The Sittaford Mystery
Author: Agatha Christie

Premise: In a remote house in the middle of Dartmoor, six shadowy figures huddle around a table for a seance. Tension rises as the spirits spell out a chilling message: "Captain Trevelyan . . . dead . . . murder." Unfortunately, his home is six miles away and, with snowdrifts blocking the roads, someone will have to make the journey on foot...

[⚠️TW: racism typical of the period]

I devoured this book. Classic case of a nice light yet engaging read just when you need it. This book is not a Poirot or a Marple novel. Instead, we have a few characters we follow as they try to solve the mystery. I enjoyed the cast, especially the Emily. It also kept me guessing although the culprit was on my short list!

A couple of downsides to this novel. There is an Indian servant in this book and, as it was written in the 1930s, there are one or two racist comments. The other issue I had was how rushed the ending felt. There were some sideplots throughout that added to the mystery, but some of them weren't really resolved or were very quickly tied up.
