REVIEW: Red, White and Royal Blue (Casey McQuiston)
Book: Red, White and Royal Blue
Author: Casey McQuiston
Premise: When the tabloids publish photos of an altercation between Alex, son of the president, and Prince Henry, U.S./British relations take a turn for the worse. Heads of family and state devise a plan for damage control: stage a truce. But what begins as a fake friendship grows deeper. Soon they are hurtling into a secret romance that could upend two nations.
Please don't sue me but I didn't rate this book.
The enemies to lovers part was very short - blink and you'll miss the supposed fued! The bulk pages was the whole forbidden romance section. Here the story dragged. There was some build up as the couple worried about characters X and Y finding out. But each of these other characters was absolutely fine with the relationship, so there was a lot of building jeopardy for nothing.
There was finally some drama when the inevitable tabloid reveal happens. But even then, it seems to be resolved nice and swift. By the time it got to the presidential election results, we all knew what was coming and the book had dragged for so long that I just wanted it to end. A shame as I was looking forward to this book!
