REVIEW: Steeple Chasing (Peter Ross)
Book: Steeple Chasing
Author: Peter Ross
Premise: Churches are all around us. Their steeples remain landmarks in our towns, villages and cities, even as their influence and authority has waned. They contain art and architectural wonders - one huge gallery scattered, like a handful of jewels, across these isles.
This was an interesting tour around various churches in the UK, exploring stone masons, saving run abandoned churches, and uncovering odd treasures and relics. There's a very human element to this book. There's a common theme of comfort and community, made particularly poignant by the fact it was written during the pandemic. It isn't preachy in any way, focusing more on the building and the history. A very good read.
