REVIEW: The Tattooist of Auschwitz (Heather Morris)
Book: The Tattooist of Auschwitz
Author: Heather Morris
Premise: In 1942, Lale Sokolov arrived in Auschwitz-Birkenau and was given the job of tattooing the prisoners marked for survival.
Waiting in line to be tattooed was Gita. For Lale, it was love at first sight. And he was determined not only to survive himself, but to ensure Gita did, too.
This was a harrowing story, made even more unbearable by the fact it is a true story. We see the atrocities performed in Auschwitz and feel the fear of the prisoners. But there is a love story that develops between the two main characters, one that gives hope in such a dark place. Throughout your hoping for a happy ending...or at least as happy an ending as possible!
