Premise: Twenty-year-old Violet Sorrengail joins the hundreds of candidates striving to become the elite of Navarre: dragon riders. But when you're smaller than everyone else and your body is brittle, death is only a heartbeat away. For there are only two ways out: graduate or die.

The premise and story arc is predictable: weak daughter of high commander becomes underdog in brutal school, defeats the odds and falls for the guy who's meant to be her enemy. But did I care? Nope. Did I devour this book? HELL YEAH!

I enjoyed the world building is what interested me, with the dragons and magic system. Violet is a strong protagonist and I loved the banter she has with other characters. Yes there's sex in this book but it's not as much as I was lead to believe. Loved the cliffhanger ending and can't wait for book 2!
