REVIEW: The Song Rising (Samantha Shannon)
Book: The Song Rising
Author: Samantha Shannon
Premise: Paige Mahoney has risen to the dangerous position of Underqueen. But with vengeful enemies still at large, the task of stabilizing the fractured underworld has never seemed so challenging. But all bets are off when Scion introduces Senshield, a deadly technology that spells doom for clairvoyants. Now Paige must race against the clock to stop her reign ending in blood.
This is the shortest book of the Bone Season series, but so much happens in it! We get a tour around the UK as Paige and her band of criminals try to stop Scion with their plans. There is a lot of action and jeopardy. I love how human Paige is - she breaks down, she's exhausted, she has feelings. But she's still incredibly strong.
In the last 70 odd pages, the story comes to a head and gets dark. You can't help but wonder how on earth Paige will get out of her predicament and even start to lose hope. But yet again, we have more twists and an explosive ending that promises more in the next book. Really loving this series!
