REVIEW: Horseman (Christina Henry)
Book: Horseman
Author: Christina Henry
Premise: Everyone in Sleepy Hollow knows about the Horseman, but no one really believes in him. Not even Ben Van Brunt's grandfather, Brom Bones, who was there when the Horseman chased the upstart Crane out of town. But then Ben stumbles across the headless body of a child in the woods. Could the Horseman be real after all? Or does something even more sinister stalk the woods?
This book is a horror sequel to the Legend of Sleepy Hollow, told by the grandchild of the legend's main characters. It is fast paced with a lot of spooky goings on. It is gory and there is a good amount of scary bits. The author also tackles the confinement of the gender stereotypes of that era, with Ben being a trans protagonist. I liked this aspect and it helped give another dimension to the main character and brought different plot aspects.
Overall, a good book....although I don't know if I'll be able to walk in the woods for a while!
