REVIEW: The Memory Police (Yoko Ogawa)

Book: Memory Police
Author: Yoko Ogawa

Premise: To the people on the island, a disappeared thing no longer has any meaning. Soon enough, the island forgets it ever existed. When a young novelist discovers that her editor is in danger of being taken away by the Memory Police, she desperately wants to save him.

I really liked this book. People wake up to find they're forgetting something, which gradually disappears from the island and memories. Those who don't forget are taken away. It's really sad when something new disappears as you can see people are losing the joy in their life. The protagonist is haunted by the question of what happens when there's nothing else to disappear. It's a super sad story ultimately, yet a beautiful read.
