REVIEW: Upon a Frosted Star (M.A. Kuzniar)

Book: Upon a Frosted Star
Author: M.A. Kuzniar

Premise: When struggling artist, Forster, finds an invitation to a notorious party, he’s bewitched by the magic of the evening and intrigued as to who is behind them. Determined to find out more, Forster discovers an abandoned manor house silent with secrets and a cursed woman who is desparate to be free.

This book is a retelling of Swan Lake but set during the 1920s, with glitz and glamour. There is magic in the annual party, which captivates you. Then the story moves towards Forster searching for answers about Odetta, the host. It was a sweet love story and I enjoyed the flashbacks to how Odetta became cursed. The story did drag a bit at points. Personally, I found the ending to be a damp squid - it felt like none of the last 100 pages or so ultimately mattered! I think the author should've chosen either a happy ever after or a heartbreaking ending.

Overall, very festive and magical.
