REVIEW: The Land of Lost Things (John Connolly)

Book: The Land of Lost Things
Author: John Connolly

Premise: Ceres' daughter lies in a coma and all she can do is sit by her bedside and read aloud fairy tales in the hope they might summon her back to this world. But an old house on the hospital grounds is calling to Ceres. Soon she finds herself in a land of folklore, where old enemies are watching... and waiting.

This book is a sequel to the Book Of Lost Things. It's been a while since I read that so I had to do a quick Google to remind myself what happened. This story is about grief so it does start off heavy and a bit slow. But once Ceres enters the fairytale world, it picks up.

I love the fairytales in this book. They are dark and twisted, but there's also a lot of humour. I loved the AA meeting for witches renouncing their wickedness. There's a lot of action, especially towards the end. But also a lot of character development for Ceres as she comes to accept her grief and finds her purpose.

A good book and easy read.
