REVIEW: The Cruel Prince (Holly Black)
Author: Holly Black
Premise: Since she was stolen away as a child, Jude has wanted to belong in Faerie. But many of the fey despise humans, especially Prince Cardan. As betrayal threatens to drown the Faerie in violence, Jude will need to risk her life in a dangerous alliance to save her sisters, and Faerie itself.
I probably would've lapped up this book when it first came out, but now I think I've come to it too late. The world building is good and I liked seeing Jude become strong. But I wasn't excited. The first half of the book was quite slow and I found I didn't really care about anyone.
I also had a problem with Cardan. The author is clearly lining up an enemies to lovers arc but he's such a vile, awful person that I cannot see a way for him to be redeemed.
Unfortunately, not for me.
