REVIEW: The Mask Falling (Samantha Shannon)

Book: The Mask Falling
Author: Samantha Shannon

Premise: Snatched from the jaws of captivity and sent to a safe house in Paris, Paige finds herself caught between factions that seek Scion's downfall and those who would kill to protect the puppet empire. With Arcturus at her side, she embarks on an adventure that will lead her from the catacombs of Paris to the glittering hallways of Versailles.

First up, I read The Dawn Chorus, which is a novella that bridges books 3 and 4. It focuses on Paige's healing and also build on her relationship with Warden. It's a quick read and was a useful refresher for me as it'd been a while since I read the last book.

Mask Falling continues Paige's quest to understand Scion and bring about it's downfall. It also extends the world building into a new country and ups the stakes. We get to meet new players on both sides, but also see some old faces. Yet again, Paige doesn't seem to catch a break! There's lots of action and various twists.

My only regret is that I didn't wait until I had a copy of the next book because the ending of Mask Falling left me on a massive cliffhanger and now I have to wait!
